Why we will never deploy fiber-to-the-curb in a new build, even when it is cheaper short-term.
Why it matters
We get this question often enough that it deserved a longer answer. The short version is in the headline; the rest of this post explains the why.
Our team has spent the last few years thinking about this and shipping changes based on what we learned. The trade-offs are not always obvious, and reasonable people land on different answers depending on context.
What we are doing
This is the kind of thing we like to talk about publicly. Where we are early, we share the math. Where we are wrong, we say so. We would rather customers trust us to communicate honestly than wish away every problem.
"The best way to be trusted is to be trustworthy in small things first." — engineering team motto
