Frequently asked questions

25 questions we hear most often. If your question is not here, ask us at /support/contact.

Service

How do I check if FaultLine is available at my address?

Use the coverage checker on our Coverage page or call 1-800-FAULTLINE. We service most of the Tucson metro plus parts of Phoenix, Cochise, and Graham counties.

Is there a contract for residential plans?

No. All residential plans are month-to-month with no early termination fee. Business plans typically have a 12-month minimum term.

How long does installation take?

For most addresses we offer self-install within 48 hours. Pro install windows are typically 5-7 business days. Fiber-to-the-home installs that require new drops can take 10-14 business days.

What is the difference between fiber and cable?

Fiber gives you symmetric upload/download and lower latency. Cable is widely available and reliable but uploads are slower. Where both are available we recommend fiber.

Can I get TV without internet?

No, we currently bundle TV with an internet plan.

How do I pause my service?

You can pause residential service for up to 90 days per calendar year, free, from /account/billing.

Billing

What payment methods do you accept?

Credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Discover), ACH bank transfer, and Apple/Google Pay. Business customers can use NET-30 invoicing.

Do you offer paper bills?

Yes, on request. There is no fee for paper bills.

Is there a discount for autopay?

Yes — $5/mo off any residential plan with autopay enabled.

What is your refund policy?

30-day money-back guarantee on new residential installs. Equipment purchases can be returned within 14 days for a full refund minus shipping.

Equipment

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No. We can rent you a router/modem for $10/mo or you can buy one outright through our shop. You can also bring your own approved equipment — see our compatibility list.

Can I bring my own router?

Yes for fiber and DSL. For cable we require an approved DOCSIS 3.1 modem; the router behind it is yours to choose.

Do you offer Wi-Fi extenders on rental?

Mesh nodes can be added to your equipment rental for $5/mo per node.

Performance

Do you have a data cap?

Fiber, DSL, and business plans are uncapped. As of September 2024 our residential cable plans are also uncapped.

How does the speed test compare to my plan?

Run a wired test at speed.faultline.example to see your actual throughput. Wi-Fi tests are useful but capped by your router and signal — wired is the source of truth.

What is bufferbloat?

It is queuing delay during congestion. We deploy AQM (CAKE / fq_codel) on most equipment to keep latency low under load. See our blog post on bufferbloat for details.

Can I get speed boosts during peak hours?

On fiber plans you get burst capacity above your tier when the network has capacity. No additional charge.

Networking

Do you offer static IPs?

Yes, on business plans. A single static IPv4 is $10/mo. Static /29 and /28 blocks are available on Dedicated Internet Access plans.

Do you peer at any IXPs?

Yes — Phoenix IX, Equinix Phoenix, and AnyMile. We are working on Las Vegas peering for Q1 2025.

Is IPv6 enabled by default?

Yes. As of July 2024 every residential connection is dual-stack by default. New fiber drops in 2025 will be IPv6 + DS-Lite.

What is your network neutrality policy?

We do not throttle, prioritize, or block lawful traffic. Read the full policy at /legal/aup.

Do you support custom DNS / DoH?

Yes. The default resolvers are 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 but you can configure any resolvers on your CPE, including DoH/DoT.

How do you handle CGNAT?

We do not use CGNAT on fiber or DSL — every residential connection gets a real public IPv4. Cable plans are dual-stack with a public IPv6 and a CGNAT IPv4; you can request a public IPv4 free of charge.

Reliability

How do I report an outage?

Check /support/outages first — known issues are listed there. To report a new one, call 1-800-FAULTLINE or use the chat in your customer portal.

What is the SLA on business plans?

Business plans target 99.9% uptime. Dedicated Internet Access plans carry a 99.99% uptime SLA with service credits — see /legal/sla.
