Setup guides

Step-by-step walkthroughs for installing, configuring, and tuning your FaultLine equipment.

Self-install (fiber or cable)

15 min
  1. Step 1. Locate the ONT (fiber) or coax wall plate (cable) and your service kit.
  2. Step 2. Connect the ONT or modem to power; wait for steady status lights.
  3. Step 3. Connect the FaultLine router to the LAN port via the supplied Cat6 cable.
  4. Step 4. Power the router. Wait for the Wi-Fi indicator (about 90 seconds).
  5. Step 5. Connect your phone to the SSID printed on the router. Open https://setup.faultline.example.
  6. Step 6. Confirm your service address and run the activation flow. Done.

Router setup (any FaultLine router)

10 min
  1. Step 1. Place the router central to your home, off the floor, away from microwaves and big metal.
  2. Step 2. Connect WAN port to the ONT or modem with the supplied cable.
  3. Step 3. Power up and join the SSID on the back label.
  4. Step 4. Open https://setup.faultline.example or scan the QR code.
  5. Step 5. Set a new admin password. Optional: rename your SSID and set a Wi-Fi password.
  6. Step 6. If you have mesh nodes, add them now — see the Mesh Network guide.

Mesh network setup

20 min for 2 nodes
  1. Step 1. Set up the primary router first (see Router Setup).
  2. Step 2. Place satellite nodes one room away from the primary, on the path to your dead zone.
  3. Step 3. Power each satellite. Wait for the pairing light to slow-blink.
  4. Step 4. In the FaultLine app, tap Add node and choose the satellite.
  5. Step 5. Run the Wi-Fi tune-up after all nodes pair. The router will rebalance bands.
  6. Step 6. Walk the house with a speed-test app and adjust placement.

Port forwarding

5 min
  1. Step 1. Sign in to your router at http://192.168.50.1 (default admin).
  2. Step 2. Open Advanced → NAT → Port forward.
  3. Step 3. Add a rule: destination port, internal IP, protocol. Reserve the internal IP via DHCP.
  4. Step 4. Save. The router applies the rule without rebooting.
  5. Step 5. Test externally with /support/speed-test or an external port-check service.
  6. Step 6. Note: if your cable plan is on CGNAT, request a public IPv4 first — free, from /account/settings.

Bring your own equipment

20 min
  1. Step 1. Check the BYOE list at /support/faq before you buy.
  2. Step 2. For cable: the modem must be DOCSIS 3.1 (or 4.0 in trial markets). DOCSIS 3.0 is no longer supported.
  3. Step 3. For fiber: bring any router; the ONT is provided.
  4. Step 4. For DSL: bring a VDSL2/ADSL2+ modem; we recommend the FaultLine M050.
  5. Step 5. Email your MAC address and account number to support@faultline.example for provisioning.
  6. Step 6. After provisioning, factory-reset the device and connect — it should self-activate in 5–10 minutes.
