WFH network tune-up: 45 minutes, big payoff

By Priya Iyer · 2024-02-19 · guides

A repeatable checklist for getting your home network production-ready before your next quarter starts.

Why it matters

Bandwidth requirements have stabilized in the last couple of years. 4K Netflix tops out around 25 Mbps. A typical Zoom call sits at 3–5 Mbps. Online games rarely push more than 1 Mbps even at high tickrates.

What changed is latency sensitivity. People notice 30 ms of added latency on a video call. They do not notice missing 5 Mbps of headroom. We tune for the first, not the second.

What we are doing

This is the kind of thing we like to talk about publicly. Where we are early, we share the math. Where we are wrong, we say so. We would rather customers trust us to communicate honestly than wish away every problem.
